Can Wasps return to winning ways in EDF Energy Cup?
Danny Cipriani took all the headlines for his unexpected return to action against Bath but Wasps are on a losing streak make no mistake.
The 20-year-old showed some impressive moments of class in the 23-27 defeat to Bath. And after coming through unscathed, Cipriani will be hoping to put things right when the London side travel to Gloucester for their opening game in the EDF Energy Cup on Saturday.
The game, which kicks off at 2.30pm, is being shown live by the BBC. Wasps will be desperate to turn round their poor start to the season.
The Guinness Premiership champions have lost every home game at Adams Park, with defeats to London Irish, Worcester Warriors and Bath. Away they have lost to Northampton with the only victory coming, of all places, at Leicester Tigers.
Cipriani, like the rest of the squad, will be hoping to use the EDF Energy Cup to get back to winning ways.
"I was very happy to get through the match but disappointed we lost," he said.
"I was a bit rusty and made some mistakes, which I know I can eradicate after I've looked at the analysis.
“The warm-up went well and I got into the match and didn't feel the ankle at all, so I was just focusing on the game and not thinking about it. I thought my goal-kicking was good and I felt a bit more confident with my defence."
Wasps have never won away in the EDF Energy Cup and Gloucester have never won at home. Unlike Wasps, Gloucester have made a steady start to the season, with three wins in their five opening Guinness Premiership fixtures. |
